By Nhật Huy 11.2

Have you dreamt of becoming an actor? Have you dreamt of performing on a theatrical stage or perhaps participating in a play? There’s no need for further wait: The new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Musical offers exactly that! Directed by Mr. Jordan, one of our talented ELA teachers and the visionary behind our last production, Matilda! the Musical, the new show promises to wow audiences with this never-seen-before production and a student-led cast.

If you wish to participate as an actor in the production, auditions are open from May 19 to May 23, 2025, for students in grades 6 to 11. All proceeds made from the show will be donated to charity.

About the Musical

We all know how the classic tale by Roald Dahl goes: Once upon a time, in a small, humble home lived a boy named Charlie Bucket. With dreams as big as his heart, Charlie longed for adventure and chocolate. Little did he know, his life was about to change forever when he discovered a golden ticket – an invitation to the magical chocolate factory of Willy Wonka.

Experience the whimsical world of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory, filled with adventure, laughter, and important life lessons. There are over a dozen incredible songs that will be performed by our cast during the production, like “Pure Imagination”, “The Candy Man”, and of course, “The Oompa Loompa Song”, along with many other amazingly catchy and fun tunes that will be stuck in your head for weeks after the final show.

Meet the Director

The Musical will be directed by the talented Mr. Jordan, known for his engaging storytelling and vibrant productions. Driven by past successes with Matilda in theater, the director shares with WISers TV his plans to create an unforgettable experience for both cast and audience.

“We chose Charlie and the Chocolate Factory because it’s a story students are familiar with – Grade 7 studies it in class, and many have seen the recent Wonka movie released last year,” Mr. Jordan shares. “Unlike smaller class plays like the recent Macbeth, this full-scale, Broadway-style production offers all students a major commitment with an even greater payoff in experience”

For the new musical, Mr. Jordan also plans to make the production even grander than before, even employing unique costume designs alongside interactive props for the audience. “Compared to Matilda, this show will feature more stage effects and surprises, aiming for a more immersive audience experience – no spoilers yet!”

What we’re looking for!

This enchanting story has long captured the imaginations of children and adults alike, and now, you have the chance to bring it to life on stage!

The new Musical is currently looking for 34 student actors to portray a variety of characters, from Charlie to the quirky Oompa-Loompas. An additional 15 backstage crew members will also be sought to help with set design, costumes, and stage management.

Unlike professional productions, this experience will be open for all to apply. This point is further emphasized by Mr. Jordan: “If you can sing or dance even a little, that’s great – but you don’t need to be perfect. We’re here to help you grow. Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are what matter most.”

The curtain rises in January 2026 with two unforgettable performances that promise to be the theatrical event of the year. Whether you're dreaming of the spotlight or excited to work behind the scenes, this is your chance to be part of something truly magical.

Auditions will run from May 19 to May 23, 2025, open to all students in Grades 6 to 11 – no experience needed, just passion and creativity!

Step up, take a chance, and claim your golden ticket to the stage.
