How In The World Did ‘Sigma Drinks’ Win?

By Nguyễn Long Huy 11.3

The science fair is held every year to showcase Wellspring’s WISers’ best minds in science. The main part is the exhibition of each group’s projects, the well designed posters, the showcase of the products of their research, and most importantly, the presentation in front of judges. Along with the science fair are also the game booths placed right outside of the exhibition for students to play and enjoy. Game booths are activities or minigames made and hosted by grade 11 students. The game booths have a form of competition too, being votes casted by students from grades 6 to 9. So, how did something with a ‘unique’ name such as ‘Sigma Drinks’ win the most votes?

What is ‘Sigma Drinks’ ?!?!

Sigma Drinks’ game booth was a simple but effective concept overall. It was about different types of drinks and their electric conductivity. The game went like this: First, a type of drink would be chosen, mainly different soda brands. Then, the players would have to guess the drink’s conductivity value based on the readings of a conductivity meter. If the players guessed correctly, their reward would be the drink itself.

We interviewed 3 representatives of the group behind the game booth from class 11.2 about their reaction to receiving the first place prize— let’s welcome Lê Nam, Trí Lâm, and Minh Quân.

How did you react when you won?

“I was surprised that we won considering the work that we put in … I think we did a great job in promoting our game and we had a lot of fun [...] while also learning chemistry with it.” – Lê Nam

“We were shocked because we did not expect to win. At first, we were just doing it for fun but we really are happy that we won because this is our last chance of running a game booth and we are really proud of ourselves.” – Trí Lâm.

“I was really surprised and also incredibly happy, I'm really proud of my teammates.” – Minh Quân.

How do you think it won first place? Did you use any special tactics?

“Yes we did, we used a very trendy name for our booth. We also did a lot of advertising while running our game.” – Lê Nam.

“Yes of course, we had a really strong PR team, they tried hard to get customers, we also did a great job in creating discounts if they vote for us” – Trí Lâm.

“We put a lot of work into increasing our votes, we gave away many bonus gifts so that students are interested in our booth.” – Minh Quân.

Do you think you deserved the first-place prize?

“Yes, I think we deserve it because of the efforts we put in while running the booth. Our group put in a lot of work and I'm so proud.” – Lê Nam.

“Yes of course, we put a lot of work into this, everyone put sweat and tears into this project, our dedication paid off in the end and I'm really proud!” – Trí Lâm.

“No, if I'm being honest, I think there are a lot of other groups who deserve the first place and I think we got lucky. Still, I'm very proud of my team!” – Minh Quân.

By excellently approaching the students with a funny name and a good marketing strategy, Sigma Drinks had claimed the ultimate victory. At the end of the day, what matters most is that we all had our fair share of fun. Congratulations to Sigma Drinks as well as other winning teams of the 2025 Science Fair, and see you guys next year!
